Sewage Backups Happen

When people think about sewage backups, most commonly they imagine a basement.  There are basements in Florida, but they are extremely rare. This sewage backup was not in a basement but was due to a septic system failure. The contaminated water and debris seen in the before photo can be a health hazard. All porous materials that are affected by this water should be removed and disposed of properly. Significantly contaminated water, such as this sewage water is termed as Category 3 Water.  SERVPRO of East Bradenton/Lakewood Ranch follows the IICRC standard protocol for water damage restoration to protect homeowners from dangerous environments that can develop from contaminated water damages.  In this case, as seen in the after photo, all contaminated porous and non-structural materials have been removed.
